Student Trips To Costa Rica

Sea turtle research projects are an ideal field trip for students. Working with sea turtles is safe and doesn’t require special skills and the help that student volunteers provide is critical to saving these endangered animals.

SEE Turtles works with our friends at EcoTeach, a student travel company that has taken thousands of students to Costa Rica over the past 30 years, to offer these incredible trips for schools. For every student that signs up, EcoTeach will donate towards our sea turtle conservation programs around the world. Teachers or chaperones travel free including airfare to Costa Rica!

Choose from two itineraries below. Your group can work with the incredible giant leatherback turtle on a nesting beach on the Caribbean coast or help catch green and hawksbill turtles at sea to study and release on the Pacific coast. Both trips can be customized to fit your group’s schedule, budget, and interests.

Working with leatherbacks at a research station on the northern Caribbean coast. The work includes walking the nesting beach at night, helping to measure the turtles, collect the eggs and move them to hatcheries, and working with hatchlings. During the day, do a beach cleanup, visit the turtle museum, or look for wildlife.

Dates: Available March to June each year

Price: From $1,895 per person depending on group size

On this unique journey, you will work with researchers to catch and study green and hawksbill sea turtles to study and release. These turtles forage and grow in the gulf and nest elsewhere, so catching these turtles is the only way to study them. You’ll also help restore mangroves and visit an organic farm that grows and makes its own chocolate.

Dates: Available year round except for October & November

Price: From $1,895 per person depending on group size
